This year’s Coed Baseball Battles Cancer Fundraiser kicked off on Saturday September 24, 2016 at Mclean HS in Mclean, VA. Festivities included a Battle of the Sexes Game; a Coed Mixed Rosters game; and a Raffle and Silent Auction. Participants took the field to help raise funds and awareness in the fight against cancer – and to support several locally based cancer-related charities. Participants included male and female baseball players from the Eastern Women’s Baseball Conference, Legends Sports Leagues, DCMSBL and beyond. This year’s event raised just under $4,000 for Life With Cancer; Capital Breast Care Center of Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center; and Zero: The End of Prostate Cancer.
Virtually all of us have had our lives impacted by cancer and while this is a relatively small event, Give 10 for 10 reminds us that “It’s Not About How Much You Have – It’s About What You Do With It.” This event continues to be a grass-roots effort that is almost entirely reliant on the efforts of a small group of volunteers as well as donations from individuals and businesses. While many of these contributions were relatively small in scale, the collective impact was a significant one – and carries on the spirit of Give 10 for 10 in demonstrating that even the smallest of gestures can make a positive impact in the community. Big thanks to all of those involved – from our players and volunteers to the businesses and individuals who generously donated to support the Silent Auction and Raffle – THANK YOU for making this annual event another success!
Special thanks to Arrowine Winery, Baseballism, Barrel Oak Winery, Buzz Bakery, Columbia Firehouse Restaurant, Glory Days Grill, Santini’s, Sugar Shack, Tropical Smoothie Alexandria, Vermilion Restaurant, The Washington Nationals, and all of those who donated items to our Silent Auction and Raffle. Please support these wonderful organizations!
